R4TC: 2010 Ride for the Cure at Cahuilla Motocross Park
I haven't hit the track much in 2010, but knowing that the 4th Annual Motocross Ride for the Cure Event was coming, I dusted off the KTM, dropped it off at Malcolm Motorsports for some fine tuning, hit Milestone Motocross Track for a handful of warm ups and I was ready to enjoy the funnest event of the year hosted by motocross enthusiast herself, Laurie Carey, who is constantly raising the bar for fundraising, support, education and interaction for Breast Cancer Awareness!
The morning started off amazing, perfect day to moto! The sky's were bright blue and littered with dark fluffy rain clouds! Dropping rain in perfect track watering patterns, the day was in full swing and the pits were packed! Tons of Factory support lined up for the event, they even had a never ending Freestyle show in the works! Mike Metzger, the God Father of FMX was doing his thing and dozens of other talented riders busting out tricks for the fans.
I pretty much settled into a pack rat of MXGirls, WMA Pro Rider Elizabeth Bash, Race Techs Michelle Marshall, and Mission Motorsports Brooklyn McClendon. We had a blast mixing it up on the main and vet tracks, sporting our decorated "Ride for the Cure" Bra's and having a blast spinning laps, saving boobies!
In the end I was amazed at the growth this event has accumulated over the years, by far the most impressive outcome I've seen. I'm looking forward to next year's event, but more importantly, it's touching to see all the work Laurie Carey puts into the Support and Awareness of Breast Cancer.

DC Moto TF Day with Ryan Morais
Ryan Morais' goal for a 2010 West Coast Lites Supercross championship came to a screeching halt in just the 3rd round of the series, when another racer landed on the back on his bike, sending both riders crashing to the ground. This unfortunate crash would sideline Ryan for a few rounds, but he would eventually return to racing action in Seattle and finish the season 10th overall points. When the AMA Motocross Nationals came into around, Ryan was ready to get back to racing, but going into the second round he was once again out with an injury. Ryan has been busy the past few months, but is back and ready to set some new goals for the upcoming 2011 series. I spoke with Ryan about what he learned over the past year and his prospects for the new season.
Angela: Well Ryan, here we are just a few short weeks until the first Supercross race of the season; let's talk about sponsors and the bike?
Ryan: Yeah, DC Shoes stepped up recently and is sponsoring the entire Rockstar Energy Suzuki Team, so I am really excited to be a part of it. I have only been with this sponsor for a few days now and they're really taken care of the team. I'm with the same team as last year, Rockstar Energy Suzuki, with the same mechanic (Rene Zapata), and the same team manager, and owner, everything is pretty much the same, but Suzuki really is stepping up this year. Last year we were on a 2009 carburetor bike, so we were kind of behind the ball, but this year we are on the new 2011 fuel injected, the whole new chassis and everything, and Suzuki has really helped us out with factory support. Our bikes are pretty much in house bikes, running Shoei Suspension, so everything is looking great. Everyone has been doing a great job and the people at Yoshimura have been doing a lot of testing and getting our bikes dialed in, so I'm excited for Anaheim 1. Our bike should be one of the best ones out there, making things really competitive, and that is very cool.

ESPN X Games Athletes Nominated For 19TH Annual ESPYs
The ESPYs nominate seven of the top X Games and Winter X Games athletes for Best Action Sports Athlete, including Kelly Clark who also received the honor of nomination in the Best Female Athlete category. Winter X Games Mono Skier X medalist Chris Devlin-Young also received a nod in the Best Male Athlete with a Disability category.
The ESPYs will be televised live Wednesday, July 13, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPNHD from the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE. The 2011 ESPYs is co-presented by Capital One and Castrol EDGE and hosted for the second time by Saturday Night Live’s Seth Meyers. The complete list of nominees for the 19th annual ESPYs can be found here.
BEST MALE ACTION SPORT ATHLETE NOMINEES
Tucker Hibbert, Snowmobiling
The most medaled snowmobile athlete in Winter X Games history, Tucker Hibbert easily earned his fifth straight Snowmobile SnoCross gold medal at Winter X Games 15, becoming the first Snowmobile athlete to five-peat. The youngest gold medalist in Winter X Games history, Hibbert has also dominated the National series, winning 11 of 16 National series contests last season and taking home the 2011 National series points title.
Travis Pastrana, Motocross
After sealing his reputation as the best Moto X Freestyle rider with the first double backflip in 2006, Travis Pastrana returned to the Freestyle and Speed & Style disciplines at X Games 16 to win double gold in Moto X disciplines for the first time since he did it in 2006. In 2011, Pastrana is also making his NASCAR debut, both as a driver and team owner under the Pastrana-Waltrip racing banner. With 12 Moto X medals and four Rally Car medals, Pastrana is one of the most successful crossover athletes in X Games history.
Kevin Rolland, Skiing
After winning the Ski SuperPipe at both Winter X Games 14 and the inaugural Winter X Games Europe in 2010, Kevin Rolland successfully defended both titles in 2011. After making history at Winter X Games 14 by becoming the first skier to throw three doubles in the same run, Rolland continued his dominance winning two of three Winter Dew Tour Superpipe competitions and the overall title for 2011. He finished out the year by earning the AFP Superpipe points title by an enormous margin.
Kelly Slater, Surfing
Winning his 10th ASP World Title in 2010, Kelly Slater earned himself the title of surfing legend. Winning his first ASP World Title at 20-years old, Slater is now both the youngest and oldest person in ASP history to win a World Title. Slater earned four ASP elite victories in 2010, bringing his total to 45 overall elite tour victories, the most of any surfer.
Shaun White, Skateboarding & Snowboarding
With the most gold medals and the most total medals in Winter X Games history, Shaun White earned the first Snowboard SuperPipe four-peat in Winter X Games history in 2011. In addition, White earned his fourth X Games medal at X Games 16 when he took home silver in Skateboard Vert. He finished out 2010 competing in two AST Dew Tour Vert competitions, which he won.
BEST FEMALE ACTION SPORT ATHLETE NOMINEES
Sarah Burke, Freestyle Skiing
Leading the charge to include Ski Halfpipe in the Winter Olympics, Sarah Burke is one of the most influential female skiers in history. With the most SuperPipe gold of any athlete male or female, Burke has won halfpipe titles at every major contest, including gold at Winter X Games 15 and Winter X Games Europe 2011.
Kelly Clark, Snowboarding
The most decorated female Snowboard SuperPipe athlete, Kelly Clark has won eight total medals in her 12 Winter X Games appearances. With an Olympic gold in 2002 and bronze from 2010 already under her belt, Clark had a banner season in 2010/2011 where she won nearly every contest she entered, including Winter X Games 15 and Winter X Games Europe Snowboard SuperPipe. At Winter X Games 15, Clark wrote herself into the history books as she became the first female athlete to land a 1080 in SuperPipe competition.
Ashley Fiolek, Motocross
At just 20-years old, Ashley Fiolek has blazed a trail for women’s motocross by earning the first-ever female factory Honda Red Bull Racing sponsorship. In her first three seasons, Fiolek claimed the 2008 and 2009 AMA/WMX Championships and became the youngest champion ever. Though she finished in second for the overall title in 2010, she is back on track and leading the points standings for the 2011 season. Fiolek is the two-time defending X Games Moto X Racing Women’s gold medalist.
Stephanie Gilmore, Surfing
One of the most talented female surfers on the ASP Tour, Stephanie Gilmore won four of the eight surfing events on the 2010 ASP World Tour en route to her fourth straight ASP World Title. In 2011, Gilmore is currently in fourth place in the Women’s World Title rankings.

RJ Says: Moving to Pro 4 Off-Road Truck Racing in 2011
Last year I won the TORC Pro 2 Off-Road Truck racing championship. This year I'm moving to the Pro 4 class.
What's the difference between Pro 2 and Pro 4? Pro 2 is two wheel drive. Pro 4 is four wheel drive.
With Pro 4 you can drive more aggressively - you can get on the gas more, because you have much more traction with all four wheels.
Also in 2011, I'm with a new team - Menzies. Plus I have help from Dodge, and Red Bull.
In this video below, this is one of the first times I started testing for 2011. It's a track at Glen Helen Raceway! (Home of the US MX GP)

RJ SAYS: Supercross, on four wheels
It was going to be a good idea. Key word being 'was'. It was going to be a good idea!
My idea was to show you what the truck racing series that I promote and race in is like. It's like Supercross, only on four wheels!
So, my plan was simple - I'd invite my good friend Lex out to the finale of the Traxxis TORC series in Las Vegas, we'd mount a camera on the hood of my race truck, and I'd show you just how rough the racing is. It would be me (a former 2 time AMA Supercross Champion) and Jeremy McGrath (best Supercross rider in history!) showing you supercross - on four wheels!
Here is the grand experiment - camera is mounted on my truck's hood. Ready to go. But not for long!

RJ Says: Bercy Supercross
I have raced at the Bercy Supercross. In 1984, we actually raced it twice. The first race was right after the Daytona Supercross in March, and then we raced again at Bercy in December.
The very first year was cool. But the track was an unknown. When we (the top American Supercross racers) got there, we realized they (the organizers) didn't know fully how to put on a supercross. The track was so narrow, it was hard to pass, it was a 'European' supercross.
But also that first year, I realized how awesome a 'show' can be. Their show was awesome in Bercy! All of us were surprised at how great it was!
My very first thought though, the first time I got to Bercy: "Wow, this is a small track!" But I raced there again in 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1989. I've also gone another time after I retired from professional supercross and motocross racing.

RJ Says: Defending a Supercross Championship and season review
After watching the first three supercross races of the 2011 season, I'll share with you what I see at this point.
Two riders that have really impressed me so far are Ryan Villopoto and Trey Canard. Looking at their fitness, their riding technique, their ability to get thru traffic on the race track, both are far beyond what I thought they would be.
I knew Ryan would be fast. But when a rider has been away from racing for a while, as he has, sometimes it takes a while to knock off the rust. Ryan has looked great after his heat races - obviously the training with Aldon Baker has helped him a lot. I can see his fitness, how much he is sweating, and his ability to retain his breath and breathing after both his heats and main events. It's visible that Ryan has leaned down together with Aldon, and he's in awesome condition.
I thought it would take Trey Canard at least half a season in the premiere Supercross class to where he was really comfortable. As I watch Trey in these first three races, there are certain section of the different tracks where he is faster than either Villopoto or James Stewart. Once Trey puts together the whole track, and an entire 20 laps like that - look for him to win some races this year.

After reviewing the X-rays, he determined that nothing is wrong, and that everything looks pretty good. Recovery could be faster than he was expecting, which is very good news!
Marvin said, "I was happy when the doctor told me all was OK. He made me a new cast, which he will take off June 16th for good. He checked my thumb more as well, to be sure the tendon is becoming strong enough. As far as my wrist, my fingers are totally free, I can move them and use them. In five days, I will be able to begin strong rehabilitation with a physiotherapist. My thumb is still the most sensitive area, but I'm more confident than before."
Marvin is continuing to workout at the gym everyday with his trainer, Yannig Kervella.
